Centre Handbook

Centre Recognition

If you wish to offer Agored Cymru units and qualifications, you will need to apply for centre recognition.  The centre recognition process  considers whether your organisation’s procedures are fit for purpose and support robust assessment, curriculum development, internal quality assurance and administration of accredited provision. You are also required to provide us with information about your organisation and its structure as well as the key staff who will deal with Agored Cymru provision. All centres are required to sign an Agored Cymru centre agreement before being allowed to deliver any Agored Cymru units or qualifications.
Agored Cymru reviews all initial enquiries from organisations that show an interest in offering our products and assesses the viability of proceeding with the centre recognition application.
The discussion will include consideration of:

  • your organisation’s planned curriculum (including the sector areas, units and qualifications  you plan to offer);
  • the projected numbers of learners and credits;
  • the experience and expertise of your organisation’s staff  regarding delivering assessment and credit based learning.

Following from the review of your initial enquiry and discussion, Agored Cymru makes a decision regarding the most appropriate route for your organisation. There are three possible outcomes:

Recognition route

 If your organisation has the potential to become an Agored Cymru centre, you will need to complete the centre recognition application form.  The application is assessed against Agored Cymru and regulatory requirements. Ongoing curriculum support is provided to help centres choose the best Agored Cymru products to meet curriculum needs.

Partnership route

If your organisation does not currently fulfil the criteria to become a recognised centre, opportunities to establish a partnership arrangement with a recognised centre may be suggested. This would allow you more time to develop systems and provide experience of working with accredited provision.

Deferred recognition

If your organisation does not currently fulfil the criteria to become a recognised centre and no appropriate partnership arrangements are possible, it may be proposed that you undertake further development before your application can be reconsidered.

If you are dissatisfied with the route allocated for your organisation you can use the Agored Cymru Enquiries, Complaints and Appeals procedure to appeal against the decision (Appeals Process) .

Service standards applying to the complaints procedure can be found here.
