Welsh Language Policy

Scope

Agored Cymru is committed to the promotion of Welsh language and culture. Centres are required to develop a policy which expresses their commitment to deliver and assess learners through the medium of Welsh where demand exists.

The groups which need to be included

Staff responsible for assessment and quality assurance should be aware of the Welsh Language policy.  Learners should receive guidance about appropriate ways to request assessment through the language of their choice.

The principles

Centres should ensure that learners are assessed in the language of their choice (either English or Welsh).  The assessment must be comparable and a lack of proficiency in English and Welsh does not prevent the candidate achieving the unit/qualification.  Where more than one language is used for assessment mechanisms must be in place to ensure comparability of assessment, verification and award.

An effective appeals procedure should be in place, with which learners are familiar and which is applied to all learners using Agored Cymru units and qualifications.
