1. Know the difference between estimation, approximation and accurate measure.
1.1 Outline the importance of accurate measurement and how measurements can be approximated in some situations.
1.2 Outline the purpose of estimation.
2. Know what measurements are required to calculate area and perimeter.
2.1 Estimate the dimensions of a room.
2.2 Measure and record the dimensions of a room.
2.3 Use the measurements to calculate the area of floor and walls.
2.4 Use the measurements to calculate perimeter.
3. Use area measurements.
3.1 Use calculated area to work out quantities of materials required for decorating, e.g., paint and wallpaper.
3.2 Calculate the amount required and total cost of floor covering.
4. Use perimeter measurements.
4.1 Use perimeter measurements to find quantities of skirting/border required.
4.2 Calculate cost of these materials.
