1.	Understand issues relating to smoking.

1.1	Compare smoking prevalence between the following groups of people: • (a)young males and females (under 15). • (b)adults. • (c)low socio-economic groups. • (d)pregnant women.
1.2	Describe one reason why each of the following groups of people may smoke: • (a)young people. • (b)adults. • (c)low socio-economic groups. • (d)pregnent women.
1.3	Identify two current government policies relating to smoking.
1.4	Identify two actions from current smoking policy relating to the following groups: • (a)young people. • (b)adults. • (c)pregnant women.

2.	Recognise the health consequences of smoking.

2.1

Describe the causes of three smoking-related health effects.

3.	Understand how individuals stop smoking.

3.1	Describe the different stages of Prochaska and DiClemente's model of behaviour change.
3.2	Describe the behaviour of individuals at each of the above stages.
3.3	Assess smoking cessation interventions for individuals at each stage of the above model.
