1.1	Describe three reasons why people smoke and three reasons why people want to stop smoking.
1.2	Describe three barriers to stopping smoking.
1.3	Describe the nicotine dependency pathway.
1.4	Outline the stages of change model.

2.	Understand and demonstrate the skills for brief intervention.

2.1	Define brief intervention.
2.2	Describe the key messages of brief intervention advice.
2.3	Perform brief intervention with individuals motivated to stop smoking.
2.4	Develop a brief intervention plan.

3.	Understand smoking cessation services.

3.1	Compare the quit rates expected with at least four smoking cessation methods.
3.2	Describe the methods of referral to smoking cessation services.
3.3	Assess the support provided by one smoking cessation service.
