Creating Qualifications, rewarding achievement

14-19 Learning Pathways: Learning Core

The Welsh Assembly Government identifies the 14-19 Learning Core as the “wider learning consisting of the skills, knowledge, understanding, values and experiences that all 14-19 year olds will need, whatever their Learning Pathway”.  These include:

  • Key Skills (soon to be replaced by Essential Skills Wales);
  • Work related skills;
  • Wales Europe and the World including the Curriculum Cymreig;
  • Personal, social, sustainability and health matters;
  • Careers education and guidance;
  • Respect for self, others and for diversity;
  • Work-focused experience;
  • Community participation opportunities;
  • Cultural, sporting, aesthetic and creative experiences.

Agored Cymru is well placed to provide support for much of this wider learning and has been pleased to manage and implement the Recognising Wider Learning 14-19 CQFW project on behalf of WAG. The project has developed methods of accreditation to ensure that non-formal and informal education can be accredited for learners in this age bracket. In addition Agored Cymru has developed a range of provision to support the core elements of the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification.

Through the use of credit and unit based provision Agored Cymru is able to support its recognised centres to meet the Learning Core requirements by offering a wide range of units and qualifications which can be delivered flexibly across organisations so that:

  • learners can be motivated whatever their pathways;
  • the provision can be flexible enough to apply to all, accommodating a wide range of learning styles and the full range of intelligences; and
  • be manageable in terms of volume.

Agored Cymru currently offers units and/or qualifications in the following areas with proposals to extend this menu in the near future:

Schools, colleges, training providers or others that wish to deliver this NQF qualification need to be Agored Cymru recognised centres. If you would like to find out more about working with Agored Cymru please complete a new business enquiry form - available on the website here. If you would prefer to ask about units and qualifications available, or have an informal chat before completing the form please ring 02920 747866 or 01248 670011 and ask for a member of the Business Development team.
Agored Cymru will provide ongoing support and advice on the use of Agored Cymru and NOCN credit and qualifications including the requirements for assessment.
