Sector Skills Councils
Sector Skills Councils and National Occupational Standards
Sector Skills Councils (SSC) are independent, employer-led, UK wide organisations designed to build a skills system driven by employer demand. SSCs are licensed by the UK government through the UK Commission for Employment and Services (UKCES)
The full list of SSCs can be found on the Alliance of Sector Skills Councils website.
Sector skill Councils and a small number of other standard setting organisations work with employers and other partners to develop and review National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the sectors they cover. National Occupational standards describe what a person needs to do, know and understand in order to carry out a job role or function.
National Occupational Standards for all sectors of UK industry are available on the National Occupational Standards database.
Awarding Organisations such as Agored Cymru use National Occupational Standards to develop qualifications that meet the demands and needs of employers and industry.
