Emergency First Aid

Withdrawal of Agored Cymru Emergency First Aid unitsPicture of a first aid kit

During 2010 Agored Cymru reviewed the First Aid units on our unit library.   Since the launch  of the QCF, the Sector Skills Councils have now made the following units available to all awarding organisations:

Emergency first aid skills              PV22CY012         (Y/600/1250)

Paediatric emergency first aid     PV22CY013         (F/600/2036)

The units are both at level 2 and are available to be delivered as part of QCF qualifications or as stand alone units. Assessors are required to be occupationally competent.

In order to ensure that Agored Cymru provision meets the standards set by Sector Skills Councils, all current first aid units will be withdrawn from the unit library immediately.  Learners registered on existing units before 31stAugust 2011 will be able to claim credit.

No other units in emergency first aid will be approved by Agored Cymru unless

  • they are composed only of knowledge and understanding;

OR

  • they have been approved by NLIAH and/or the Care Council for Wales

These steps will maximise opportunities for learners by offering transferability into the new health and social care qualifications on the QCF and by standardising safe approaches to first aid.

If you wish to continue to offer emergency first aid through Agored Cymru please add either or both of the above units to your framework in the usual way.  If you wish to continue to use your current units please amend them by removing all references to application of practical skills and resubmit as a new unit.  There will be no charge for this process.

We will be developing two new units at entry level and level one, they will be available after Easter.
