Unit Review
A new review cycle for all units in the Agored Cymru database will come into effect from January 2012. Units will be grouped into ‘cohorts’ with each cohort being allocated a review period. The dates for each of the cohorts are listed within the table below. The units within each cohort will be made available at the start of the consultation period.
Centres are advised to make themselves familiar with the review schedule to enable staff to participate fully in the review, putting forward their views and those of learners. Units will be reviewed to ensure content is still current and relevant as well as to check that they are compliant with current (QCF) standards for unit construction. Reviewed units will be categorised as follows:
- Approve - Good unit (to include minor grammatical amends)
- Approve - New code
- Expire - Non-compliant
- Expire - Duplication
- Expire - Not fit for purpose (sector relevance, legal issues, policy changes etc)
- Expire - Content not available (centres are able to submit the content that they have and currently use, for review purposes if applicable)
- Expire – Not used (centres to request unit for review if using or planning on using)
A centre can request that any unit be kept, when initially marked for expiry, using the consultation feedback process. The centre should respond using the consultation feedback as ‘expire resubmit’: If this is accepted within the review, there will be a requirement for the recognised centre to submit a new unit. This should be submitted by the centre with support and advice provided by Agored Cymru There will be no charge to centres submitting redeveloped units for approval.
At the start of every new consultation an email alert will be sent to all recognised centres via the ‘Centre Contact’, the ‘Quality Contact’ and the ‘Curriculum Contact’.
Each consultation will last 8 weeks, following which the results will be collated and published on the dates given in the table.
All units within the review will have expiry dates changed to match the allocated unit review process i.e. ‘last registration dates’.
This means units on each organisation’s framework will have the potential expiry date of the end of the next planned review (see table column 3). This may change when consultation confirms the destiny of the unit – ie when a unit is approved the expiry date will change to a further 5 year review date in line with the iterative review process.
- Eg: all units within ‘Construction sector’ will now have expiry dates of July 2013 within a framework. At the end of the consultation period, September 2012, all ‘approved’ units will then have a new expiry date of 2018 visible on the frameworks. All units highlighted for deletion in the review will remain with the allocated ‘expiry date or ‘last registration date’.
All deletion dates will be published on the units within the website to provide a reference for staff handling registrations and curriculum amendment.
