The learner will: The learner can:
1. Understand and appreciate the purpose of committees and meetings.
1.1 Describe the key purposes of committee and meetings.
2. Identify the strengths and weaknesses different styles of running meetings.
2.1 Describe at least 3 characteristics of good and 3 characteristics of bad meetings.
2.2 List the main differences between a traditional and facilitative chair person.
2.3 Describe the strengths and weaknesses of using voting and consensus as means of arriving at a decision.
3. Describe the structure of a committee and the roles and responsibilities of members.
3.1 List the main roles and responsibilities of:
 • The Secretary
 • The Treasurer
 • The Chair
 • The ordinary members.
3.2 List the functions of an agenda and draw up an agenda.
3.3 Present an agenda item and give and receive feedback.
3.4 List the function of minutes and write a set of minutes.
3.5 List the stages involved in decision making.
4. Understand the theory and practice of group work as related to committees.
4.1 Outline theories and practice of group work in relation to a committee.
