1. Understand the principles of effective data storage.
1.1 Describe the purpose of ROM, RAM and backing store. 1.2 Explain files, file types and file associations. 1.3 Describe storage problems on a personal computer system. 1.4 Explain back up procedures. 1.5 Explain computer viruses and implications for data storage.
2. Set up and maintain an effective data storage system.
2.1 Create folders and sub folders as part of an organised file storage system. 2.2 Delete and recover files and folders. 2.3 Move and copy files and folders. 2.4 Use search facilities to locate specific files eg using file type, text and date. 2.5 Examine storage space used. 2.6 Recover disk space.
3. Manage backup procedures.
3.1 Identify scope of backup system (purpose, length of time etc). 3.2 Investigate suitability of a range of storage devices with respect to capacity, longevity. 3.3 Back up files to a suitable storage device. 3.4 Restore files from a backup.
